Privacy Policy — Light of Hope Inc.
Effective date: October 28, 2026
Light of Hope Inc. ("Light of Hope," "we," "us," or "our") is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (EIN 26-3737510). This Privacy Policy describes the information we collect through lightofhopecares.org (the "Site"), how we use it, the parties to whom it is disclosed, the method of disclosure, and the security practices we use to safeguard it. By using the Site or making a donation or sponsorship, you agree to this Policy.
1. Information we collect
Information you provide directly. When you donate, sponsor, create an account, subscribe to updates, or contact us, you may provide your name, email address, postal address, phone number, donation or sponsorship amount and frequency, and the contents of your messages to us.
Payment information. Donations and sponsorships are processed by third-party payment processors — currently Stripe and Zeffy. When you give by card or another payment method, your payment details are entered on the processor's secure checkout and transmitted directly to the processor. We do not receive, see, or store your full card number. We receive only limited confirmation details from the processor, such as the amount, date, and status of your gift, so we can issue receipts and keep donation records.
Information collected automatically. When you visit the Site, we and our service providers may automatically collect your IP address, browser type, device information, pages visited, and general (non-precise) location derived from your IP address. We may use cookies and similar technologies to operate the Site, remember your preferences, and understand how the Site is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings, although some Site features may not work properly without them.
2. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Process your donations and sponsorships, including recurring monthly gifts;
- Send receipts, donation confirmations, and tax documentation;
- Respond to your questions and support requests;
- Send updates about our work, but only if you have asked to receive them — you may unsubscribe at any time;
- Operate, maintain, and improve the Site;
- Comply with legal, tax, and accounting obligations, including record-keeping for a nonprofit organization.
3. Disclosure of your information
We disclose your information only as described below, and we do not sell your personal information to anyone.
Payment processors. Your donation and payment details are disclosed to Stripe and Zeffy, as needed to process your gift, under their own privacy policies and security practices.
Service providers. We may disclose information to trusted service providers that help us operate the Site and our organization — for example, website hosting and email delivery — under obligations to keep it confidential and to use it only for the services they provide to us.
Legal compliance and safety. We may disclose information when required by law, court order, or legal process, or when we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, safety, or property, or the safety of others.
Method of disclosure. Disclosures described above are made electronically, through encrypted connections, and only to the extent necessary for the stated purpose. We do not publish donor lists or share your information for third-party marketing.
4. Security practices
We take reasonable measures to safeguard your information, including:
- Encryption of data in transit using HTTPS/SSL on the Site;
- Payment processing handled by PCI-compliant payment processors (Stripe and Zeffy), so full card details never touch our servers;
- Access to donor and account records limited to authorized personnel only;
- Staff access to donation records restricted and controlled.
No method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure. While we work to protect your information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
5. Data retention
We retain donation and sponsorship records for as long as needed to meet tax, accounting, and legal obligations for a nonprofit organization, and to respond to donor requests. When information is no longer needed, we delete or anonymize it.
6. Your choices and rights
- Access, correction, and deletion. You may ask us to access, correct, or delete your personal information by contacting us at info@lightofhopecares.org.
- Email communications. You may unsubscribe from our emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in the email or by contacting us.
- Monthly gifts. You may manage or cancel a monthly gift through your account, or by contacting us.
- State privacy rights. Depending on your state of residence, you may have additional rights regarding your personal information. Contact us and we will respond to any verifiable request as required by applicable law.
7. Children's privacy
The Site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information online from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information through the Site, please contact us and we will delete it.
8. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Continued use of the Site after changes means you accept the updated Policy.
