A hopeful community gathering at sunset

Bringing light
where it's needed most.

Light of Hope Cares was founded by a survivor of war in Cameroon. We exist to provide food, education, shelter, and care to children growing up in conflict zones and developing nations — because no child should face what our founder faced alone.

Our Mission

Hope, delivered with dignity.

Light of Hope Cares was born from survival. Our founder grew up in war-torn Cameroon — lost in a forest as a child, starving, studying by firelight, and witnessing death before the age of seven. He came to America with one dream: to go back for the children still living what he survived. We provide food, education, shelter, and basic care to children in conflict zones and developing nations — because no child should face what he faced alone.

Community-led

Every initiative is designed with the people it serves.

Transparent

We are committed to accountability in everything we do.

Lasting impact

We measure success in lives changed over the long term.

Our Story & Vision

No child should ever be what I was.

We believe no child should ever be what I was. Lost in a forest. Surrounded by the dead. Starving for days with no certainty that tomorrow would bring a single meal. Studying by firelight on a piece of plywood. Walking barefoot on roads that led nowhere safe. Flinching at the sound of planes because planes once meant bombs, and bombs once meant the end of everything.

I was that child. I was born into a war I did not start, in a land that was being stolen from its people. I watched death before I understood life. I learned survival before I learned to read. I wore my first pair of shoes as a grown man, and they hurt my feet because my feet had never known anything but bare earth. I came to America with nothing but a dream, and that dream had one single purpose: to go back for the children I left behind. Not just in Cameroon. But everywhere on this earth where a child is tonight going to sleep hungry, studying in darkness, bleeding with no one to help, walking barefoot on dangerous roads, or listening to the sound of bombs and wondering if morning will come.

Our Vision

Light of Hope Cares envisions a world where no child’s potential is extinguished by the circumstances of their birth. We see a world where every child, regardless of which country they were born in, which war surrounds them, which poverty holds their family hostage, has access to five things every human being deserves: Food. Education. Shelter. Medical Care. Safety. These are not luxuries. These are not privileges. They are rights.

Our Five Promises

  1. No child in our reach will go to bed hungry. Because our founder knows what it means to be terrified that tomorrow will bring nothing to eat.
  2. No child in our reach will be denied education. Because our founder learned to read at nine years old, by the light of a fire, writing on plywood, and he knows what it means when the world refuses to feed a child’s hunger for knowledge.
  3. No child in our reach will walk barefoot on dangerous roads. Because our founder wore his first shoes after high school, and he knows the quiet dignity that comes with something as simple as a pair of shoes.
  4. No child in our reach will bleed without care. Because our founder was stopping wounds with the palm of his hand before the age of seven, and he knows that a child should never have to be a medic before they are old enough to be a student.
  5. No child in our reach will face the darkness alone. Because our founder was lost in a forest, surrounded by death, with no one coming, and he made a vow in that forest that he has never broken: if I survive this, I will go back for the ones who are still lost.

A Personal Word from the Founder

I am in my seventies now. I have lived long enough to know that life should not be this hard for any child, any adult, or any senior. I know what I went through. And I know that nobody, absolutely nobody, should ever have to live the life I lived. I will do everything I can to change that. Today. Tomorrow. And even after I am gone, I want to know that I tried. That is enough for me.
